Dubrovnik has always been considered as a go to destination for glamorous events. However, in the recent years the micro-weddings have taken over and less has become more.
The Old town and its surrounding area offer countless locations suitable for a smaller guest count. By inviting their closest family and friends, couples save a lot of time and money on a destination wedding. A few stunning venues are available for big and small wedding and the privatization fee can vary, so we definitely recommend hiring a planner like us who would make the most out of your budget.
Definition of a Micro wedding
As planners we believe in expanding the meaning of a micro wedding and not just consider it as an elopement. It can be any kind of an experience you envision whether you invite 15 or 50 people.
The structure can follow the lines of a bigger event but you can replace a few elements. Instead of a fancy reception with catering and an after party you could have a dinner overlooking the Old town with a DJ or a sax player. Your welcome drinks with music and dancing can turn into a panoramic cruise around the city walls with a glass of champagne.
Why couples opt for micro-weddings in Dubrovnik?
– The budget can play a big role in going for a smaller celebration. In Dubrovnik, smaller doesn’t always mean cheaper since a few venues like Sponza palace have a fix privatization fee. On the other hand, a wedding with fewer guests can decrease the cost of decoration, catering and even wedding planning services. A symbolic ceremony instead of a civil one significantly decreases the cost as well as replacing a formal reception with a dinner in a restaurant.
Having a big destination wedding can be a stressful experience even with a local wedding planner who is there to solve that exact problem. Couples that think about a 100 or more guests sometimes don’t have the time to just pause and focus on what matters the most and that is their big day. It’s not about numbers it’s about who you feel comfortable with and sharing the best day of your life with everyone you love.
Our hand picked Micro-wedding venues in Dubrovnik
Although there are a lot creative ways of having a micro-wedding in Dubrovnik, we do have a few favorite locations that just feel different.
Lazareti (small terrace)
We are convinced no one has ever thought of having their wedding in a 400 year old quarantine that prevented plagues, but this unique stone complex is a home of countless weddings in Dubrovnik. With a lot of terraces and naves of different sizes, Lazareti became a multi purpose venue for small weddings, big weddings, welcome drinks and long after parties. The privatization cost depends on the size of the terrace. For ceremonies with up to 25 people we would recommend the smallest terrace with a direct view of the Old port and Lokrum island. Its focal point is the metal window that can be opened during the ceremony. This venue is so unique that it actually doesn’t require much decor or florals to elevate it further.

Park Orsula (the old chapel)
Another one of our favorites is Park Orsula situated on a cliff overlooking the Old town and the open sea. Its amphitheater would be ideal for weddings with more than 10 people and it is both spacious and intimate. However, for a literal micro-wedding for up to 10 people we recommend the old chapel from the 14th century with the most direct view of Dubrovnik Old town. It is suitable for proposals, elopements and smaller weddings whether they’re symbolic or civil.

Palace viewpoint
This off the beaten path, stone viewpoint is not talked about enough and it is the most secluded location on our list! Located in the middle of the forest near Hotel Dubrovnik Palace, this venue is a mystery to even some locals and you couldn’t wish for a more intimate space to celebrate with your loved ones. With pine trees all around the stone, circular terrace, It offers a spectacular view of the open sea and we recommend it for weddings for up to 15 people.
